Unlimited forms of excersise

To all those united in isolation

The temperature may have dropped, but as I write this I can still see the evening sunlight slanting in through my window. Since we have recently had double glazing installed I am feeling warm and because the trouser legs would irritate my sore knees I am continuing to where shorts, so in my bedroom at least the delightful bank holiday weather continues.

With regards to my knee, I would like to thank all the kind well-wishers who expressed sympathy for my grievous bodily harm inflicted by a psycho path in the cemetery. You will be pleased to hear that I am on the mend and managed a short cycle ride in the garden on the bike which has miraculously survived its first month outdoors in perfect condition. My recovery cannot come a moment too soon since I am as excited as I’m sure you are to hear that we can now leave the house for multiple forms of exercise a day. I for one always felt that something was missing when I finished my morning jogs but in his speech on Sunday Boris put his finger right on it, the rest of the quadrathlon! “What is the quandrathlon?” I hear you ask. Well it’s just like a triathlon with the running, swimming and cycling, but since I have unlimited forms of exercise I thought I would throw in a spot of canoeing on the river Wandle for good measure. So if you see a wild-haired, bushy bearded young man kayaking past with a paddle in one hand and a cane in the other, please give me a shout, especially those who live outside of London since it is possible I may be lost.

On the subject of my hair style choices, my locks are not looking as straggly as I was expecting, long but not wholly untidy. The beard on the other hand is coming along nicely, after a particularly odd question from a friend I discovered that it can now hold up to two pencils, a trick that I might find useful if I ever needed to write with a pencil. It has quite some way to go before it can hold my laptop ready for me to produce at a moment’s notice for a surprise quiz or any other unexpected need for a writing implement.

Finally I would like to mention how we celebrated on Friday. As I am sure you know, the 8th of May was national have a cake day, so I made special V for Victory cupcakes! These were my own invention and definitely not the same as butterfly cakes despite looking and tasting exactly the same.

I look forward as ever to your news and comments which always make me smile.

Love and best wishes

Richard

PS

To those reading this on the day it is sent, happy international nurses day! Please remember to raise a toast to our lady with the lamp. I’m sure she won’t mind me saying that on a metaphorical level based on public image, Florence Nightingale is looking better than ever on her 200th birthday.
